 I can see, hear, and touch the dead. Unfortunately, they can also see, hear and touch me. Yeah, because surviving high school isn’t hard enough already. I’ve done my best to hide my “gift.” After all, my dad, who shared my ability, killed himself because of it when I was fifteen. But lately, pretending to be normal has gotten a lot harder. A new ghost—an anonymous, seething cloud of negative energy with the capacity to throw me around—is pursuing me with a vengeance. My mom, who knows nothing about what I can do, is worrying about the increase in odd incidents, my shrink is tossing around terms like “temporary confinement for psychiatric evaluation,” and my principal, who thinks I’m a disruption and a faker, is searching for every way possible to get rid of me. How many weeks until graduation?

Review:

Deze serie stond al heel lang op mijn verlanglijstje en wat ben ik blij dat ik eindelijk zover was om hem te gaan lezen want wat heb ik er van genoten!
Gezien de titel van de serie zou je denken dat het een duister en emotioneel verhaal is maar niets is minder waar. Natuurlijk zijn er een aantal emotionele momenten, maar over het geheel genomen is het luchtig en humoristisch, ik heb regelmatig zitten lachen om de hoofdpersonen.

What’s that supposed to mean?” he asked, looking alarmed.

De hoofdpersonen, Will en Alona, zijn geweldig leuke karakters. OK, toegegeven, Alona is een bitch, maar hoe beter je haar leert kennen, hoe meer je haar gaat waarderen om haar eerlijkheid, ook al komt die af en toe hard over.
En ondanks dat ze haar pittige houding tot het einde toe houdt toont ze steeds meer compassie voor de mensen om haar heen.
Will lijkt misschien een goth maar hij is alles behalve dat. Hij verschuilt zich altijd onder capuchons en draagt donkere kleding omdat hij de geesten wil doen geloven dat hij hen niet kan zien en/of horen. Door zijn ravenzwarte haar (zijn eigen haarkleur) en bleke gelaat heeft Alona altijd gedacht dat hij een Gothic was.

 Will is de enige die Alona kan zien na haar dood en ze besluiten elkaar, zij het met tegenzin, te helpen.

I shook my head to clear it. “It’s hard to believe, but I think you were less annoying when you were alive. Did you not hear me say I can’t talk to you now? Go haunt somebody else.” - Will Killian - The Ghost and the Goth

Will moet Alona helpen over te steken naar de andere zijde en ondertussen beschermt Alona hem tegen de opdringerige geesten. Dat gaat alleen niet zo makkelijk als ze gedacht hadden en ze moeten een hoop vreemde en soms gevaarlijke situaties het hoofd bieden. En ondertussen beginnen ze elkaar steeds leuker te vinden en komen er gevoelens naar boven die ze nooit verwacht hadden voor elkaar te krijgen. Maar wat voor toekomst hebben ze samen??
Dat maakte me zo nieuwsgierig dat ik de drie delen achter elkaar uitgelezen heb. En dat ging vrij snel want het zijn zeker geen dikke pillen, maar ze geven je precies dat wat je wilt weten en een beetje extra.
